Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about working with a Licensed Legal Paraprofessional in Minnesota.
A Licensed Legal Paraprofessional (LLP) is a non-lawyer authorized by the Minnesota Supreme Court under Rule 12 to provide specific legal services directly to clients. LLPs must pass a licensing exam, meet education and experience requirements, and work under the supervision of a licensed Minnesota attorney. This means you get professional legal representation under attorney oversight, so Minnesotans have more options when they need legal help.
An LLP can handle many of the same tasks as an attorney in approved practice areas — including document preparation, filing, and court appearances. The key difference is scope: LLPs are authorized to practice in specific areas defined by Minnesota Rule 12, and all work is supervised by a licensed attorney. This gives Minnesotans a direct path to qualified legal representation for matters that fall within our authorized scope.
Yes. Licensed Legal Paraprofessionals are bound by the same confidentiality rules as attorneys under Minnesota Rule 12. Your information is protected, and we take your privacy seriously. We will never share your personal details or case information with anyone outside of the supervising attorney relationship without your explicit consent.
We handle marriage dissolutions (including disputed matters), child support modifications, and parenting time agreements. We represent clients in both uncontested and disputed proceedings. We are unable to take cases involving allegations of domestic abuse, child abuse, or sexual violence, or matters involving complex asset disputes. If your matter falls outside our scope, we will refer you to a family law attorney.
We cannot handle cases involving domestic abuse, child abuse, or sexual violence, complex asset disputes, criminal defense cases, felony matters, complex civil litigation, immigration cases, or any matter that falls outside the scope authorized by Minnesota Rule 12. If your situation requires services beyond our scope, we will let you know during the consultation and provide a referral to an appropriate attorney.
Yes. Gogh Para serves clients throughout the entire state of Minnesota. While we are based in the Twin Cities metro area, we handle filings in courts across all 87 Minnesota counties. Many of our services can be provided remotely via phone and video consultations, with in-person court appearances as needed.
We use transparent, flat-fee pricing for all services. Prices start at $750 for expungement petitions and range up to $3,500 for marriage dissolutions. Every engagement begins with a $100 consultation that is credited in full toward your service fee if you retain us. There are no hourly charges, no hidden fees, and no surprises. You know exactly what you will pay before we begin work.
If you decide not to proceed before we begin substantive work on your matter, you may be eligible for up to a 75% refund of your service fee. If substantive work has already begun (document drafting, filings, court preparation), you may be eligible for up to a 60% refund. The $100 consultation fee is non-refundable once your consultation has been completed, except in cases where we identify a conflict of interest that prevents us from representing you — in which case the consultation fee is refunded in full. If you do not show up for your scheduled consultation, no refund will be issued. You may reschedule one time; a second missed appointment will forfeit the consultation fee.
We help eligible clients with expungement petitions under Minnesota Statutes Chapter 609A. Not all records qualify for expungement — eligibility depends on the type of offense, case outcome, and waiting periods under Minnesota law. We will review your record, assess whether it qualifies, prepare and file the petition, and appear in court at the expungement hearing on your behalf.
Conciliation court is Minnesota's small claims court, where disputes involving $15,000 or less are resolved. Common cases include security deposit disputes, property damage claims, breach of contract, and consumer complaints. We can represent you in conciliation court — preparing your claim or defense, organizing evidence, and appearing with you at the hearing. Our flat fee of $800 covers the entire process.
Our $100 consultation fee ensures that every client receives a thorough, personalized assessment of their situation — not a rushed overview or a sales pitch. During the consultation, we review your documents, assess the scope of your matter, and provide a clear recommendation. If you retain us, the $100 is credited in full toward your service fee, making the consultation effectively free. This way, every client we sit down with is serious about moving forward, and you get meaningful guidance from the very first conversation.
Yes. After the consultation, we may decline to take your case if it falls outside our authorized scope of practice, if there is a conflict of interest, or if we believe your matter requires an attorney rather than a Licensed Legal Paraprofessional. In any of these situations, we will explain why and do our best to refer you to an appropriate resource or attorney. If we decline due to a conflict of interest, your consultation fee will be refunded in full.
If during the course of our work we determine that your matter has become more complex than initially assessed — for example, if a dissolution involves complex asset disputes or issues outside our authorized scope — we will notify you immediately. We will explain what has changed, discuss your options, and if the matter now falls outside our scope, we will help you transition to an attorney. You will never be charged beyond your agreed flat fee without a new written agreement, and any transition will be handled smoothly to protect your interests.
